TREATMENT OF WASTE MAGNETIC TAPES

PURPOSE:To treat any types of waste magnetic tapes in the reusable form, by stripping a magnetic material layer from the base layer of a waste magnetic tape immersed in a strong alkali solution. CONSTITUTION:A waste magnetic tape is immersed in a strong alkali solution at a temperature of 25 deg.C or above, preferably 25-80 deg.C to strip the magnetic material layer from the base layer. The separated layers can be effectively used respectively. Magnetic tapes comprising any types of binder can be treated simultaneously. The concentration of the alkali is preferably 5 wt.% or higher.
