Prodn. of a plastics electrical insulator, consisting of a core with insulators fixed rigidly to it with an adhesive is carried out with an adhesive which can dry and set. It is applied to the insulator and core and dried until it is tack-free, then the insulator is placed on the core, without the use of further lubricant, and the adhesive is set. An absolutely firm, nonporous and reliable bond is formed and the process is not costly. The adhesive is an air-drying, thermosetting adhesive, which does not go beyond the B-stage on drying, pref. a silicone-based adhesive. The insulators consist of an elastic ethylene-propylene copolymer and the core of glass fibre-reinforced plastics.
