<p>1,176,842. Coated films. AMERICAN CYANAMID CO. 6 Feb., 1967 [25 Feb., 1966], No. 5632/67. Addition to 1123013. Heading B2E. The invention defined in claims 1 to 37 of Specification 1,123,013 is modified in one or more of the following three respects, (1) the film which carries the coating, or which is to be coated, is a non-polyalkylene hydrophobic organic film, (2) the substantially unbranched alkyd resin is replaced by a polyol containing at least 2 etherifiable hydroxyl groups and having a molecular weight above 2,000 and which polyol is either a polyhydroxy-containing vinyl polymer or a naturally-occurring polyol (3) a proportion of the poly(alkoxymethyl) amidogen is replaced by a polymethylol amidogen. The ratio of the total number of the hydroxy groups of the polyol (when modification (2) is present), or of the substantially unbranched alkid resin, (when modification (2) is not present), to the total number of hydroxyl equivalents in the amidogen component is from 1:1 to 1:2. The synthetic organic films specified are nylon film, polyvinyl chloride film, polycarbonate film, polyvinylidene chloride film, polyvinyl acetate film, 85%-hydrolyzed polyvinyl acetate film, polyethylene terephthalate film and polystyrene film. The film may be previously treated with an oxidizing acid, by exposure to flame or by passage through an electric corona discharge. Suitable vinyl polyols are specified and there may be copolymerized monomers in the polymers which act as spacers for the hydroxyl-containing components. Suitable natural polyols are also specified as well as suitable amidogens.</p> |
