PURPOSE:A cold milled steel belt is sprayed with a liquid dispersion consisting essentially of synthetic silicic compound flakes. The resultant scaly laminar films control heat scale production, thereby to eliminate the need for using reducing atmosphere and decrease a cooling time, required for annealing. CONSTITUTION:A cold milled steel belt is coated with or dipped into a liquid dispersion consisting essentially of a synthetic silicic compound such as sodium tetrasilicic mica and the like. The thus formed scaly coating layer on the steel belt controls scale formation during or after annealing. An amount of synthetic silicic compound scaly coating is in the range of 0.1 to 50g/m<2>, preferably 0.1 to 10g/m<2>. This treatment is performed when steel belt is annealed and gradually cooled to a temperature of 450-500 deg.C, then if it is exposed to air, no scale occurs. Further, the treating agent is swelled by hydration, so it is easily removed. |
