The flowmeter has two field plates in the magnetic flux of a permanent magnet, whose flux distribution in the plates determines the output signal. The flux distribution varies with the position of a ferromagnetic control element at least partly immersed in the flowing medium. A baffle is used as the control element, whose free end moves with the flow in the permanent magnet stray field, as in 2434864. Magnetic parts of the flowmeter, which can be in contact with the flowing medium (2) are provided with a non-magnetic cover (30).
