Horizontal conveyor for adding water to glass batches - for moistening batch prior to pelletising and feeding into melting furnace

The glass batch falls from a hopper into a vibrating trough, and travels continuously along the trough until it drops over an edge(a) into a vertical chute. In or near the chute are one or more spraying nozzles feeding water into the glass batch. The spraying nozzles are pref. 50-100 mm. below edge (a); and two nozzles are pref. used, one directed towards the front surface, and the other towards the rear surface of the falling batch. The trough pref. contains an adjustable shutter controlling the height of the layer of glass travelling along the trough. Provides uniform addn. of water to a glass batch e.g. before converting the latter into pellets which are then fed into a glass melting furnace.
