PURPOSE:To provide a base oil for the lubricant of an internal combustion engine, which is conposed of ester of mixed fatty acid containing two kinds of fatty acids at a preset ratio and neopentyl polyol, and which is thermally stable, stable for oxidization, and excellent in fluidity and low volatility. CONSTITUTION:As a base oil of the lubricant of an internal combustion engine, ester ofneopentyl polyol (e.g., trymethylos propane or pentaery surythol) and a fatty acid, more specidally, the fatty acid being the mixture of a branched fatty acid a of C14 to C20 (e.g., isostearic acid or isopalmitic acid) and a straight chain fatty acid b of C4 to C18 (e.g., caprylic acid or caproic acid), the mole ratio of a and b being 0.01 to 2.1, and the ester being neopenthyl polyol ester. |
