A knife in which the blade is concealed in the handle has an inner guide (15) in which the blade (12) rests. The blade (12) has a notch (24) in its back edge near the tip, which receives the bent over end (23) of the leaf spring (19). This leaf spring acts as a catch. When the blade (12) and guide (15) are fitted inside the knife handle, a small lever mounted on the side of the handle can engage the loop (25) at the end of the leaf spring (19) and pull the end (23) clear of the notch (24) to release the blade (12).
