The protective sleeve for an endoscope consists of concentric windings enclosing the control wires and other members forming parts of the operating system. An inner tube (6) consists of a helically wound strip (9) of flexible material enclosed by an inner layer (11) then an outer layer (12) both in the form of a network of wires (13, 14) forming a diamond pattern network. The angle between the winding wires (13) of the inner layer (11) and the central axes (X1, X2) is between 30 deg. and 50 deg., while the corresponding angle for the wires (12) of the outer layer (12) is between 50 deg. and 80 deg.. These wires are tough and flexible.
