The spacer frames (1) are passed by a conveyor belt (2) between two nozzles (12) from which the sealant composition is extruded. After a first frame leg (6) has been coated, the spacer frame is automatically pivoted by a rotating device (14-16) by 90 DEG with respect to the conveying direction, so that immediately thereafter the coating takes place of the second frame leg (7) adjacent to the first frame leg. In total, the spacer frame is pivoted three times during the coating process, each time by 90 DEG with respect to the conveying direction, the operational sequence being controlled by switches which - preferably in a non-contact manner - respond to the position of the frame legs. For the first time, coating is effected largely automatically. <IMAGE>
