CUTTING CHAINS FOR MINING MACHINES

For a mining machine, a cutter chain link has at least one pick box disposed symetrically with respect to a longitudinal central plane of the link. A pair of forward coupling members and a rear coupling member on the link each have a link pin receiving bore, the longitudinal central plane being perpendicular to these bores. The new coupling member is receivable between the forward coupling members of a like link for coupling thereto by a link pin. A pick receiving bore extends completely through the pick box for holding a pick with one end of the pick abutting the rear coupling member, the axis of the pick receiving bore being inclined towards the rear end of the link and intersecting the rear link receiving bore axis.
