A thermally insulated profile having metal frames 2, 3 bonded to a separating body of insulating material such as synthetic plastics which is introduced between the frames in the liquid state. Those surfaces of the frames abutting the body of insulating material are provided with ribs 7 which have intermittent interrupting portions along their lengths so that a shear resistant bond is produced between the body and the frames. Portions 5 are removed after hardening of the plastics. Alternatively a profile (29) has external ribs (31) embedded in a body of plastics material. A method and apparatus is also disclosed for producing the insulated profiles.
