The metal sheet (12) to be bent can be clamped between a fixed supporting beam (6) and a top beam (11) which can be moved up and down. The bending machine has a bending cheek (13), which can be pivoted about the bending edge (14) by means of two pivoting devices. Each pivoting device is connected to the machine frame (1) via two fixed-location bearings (18, 35). In the case of each pivoting device, the bending cheek (13) is pivotally attached to two bars (24, 25) of a parallelogram linkage consisting of these bars and two links (26, 27). One (24) of the bars (24, 25) is connected in articulated fashion (22), via a lower extension, to a lever (21) which is pivotable about one, lower fixed-location bearing (18) and can be displaced by means of a driving device (17, 19).
