Prodn. comprises finely grinding the new material (0.2 mm, pref. 0.1 mm., esp. 0.6 mm); compressing the ground material on smooth rollers to form densified plates; and sintering material at a temp. >1700 degrees C. Suitable raw materials are magnesite (esp. a flotation concentrate), crude dolomite, burnt magnesia, semi-burnt dolomite or a mixt. of these materials. The mixt. may opt. contain a binder (e.g. fly dust and MgSO4 soln.). Sintering of the highly densified raw material results in the formation of coarse grains whereby high refractory stones are produced. The pre-pressing can be carried out at room temp. or at an elevated temp. The 'green' density of the resulting plate is 2.40-2.60 g/cm3; the density of the sintered body is 3.20-3.40 g/cm3.
|
