Ship's barrel-shaped fender comprises a textile mantle packed with foam and has a rope through it along its axis. The textile consists of elastic PVAA, (acetalised vinyl fibre "Vinylal" (RTM), the inner surface of the mantle being covered with pulverulent silicic acid. Between the textile and the foam (which is a polyether polyurethane foam) is a relatively denser foam layer, as adhesion adjuvant. The mantle wall is made by moulding.
