The metal cover frame for an open shaft is adapted to be installed flush with a road surface and is connected in a vertically adjustable manner, to adapt to a new road level when the roadway is resurfaced, to a concrete frame which is adapted to rest on the upper end of the shaft. The metal frame comprises an arrangement for holding a cover and has an inwardly projecting lip provided with through holes. Collets are adapted to receive tightening screws corresponding to the through holes in the metal frame being provided in the concrete frame. Tightening screws penetrating the through holes and received in the collets secure the metal cover frame to the concrete frame. The inwardly projecting lip is provided with integral raising arrangement comprising the tightening scres at the bottom side of the inwardly projecting lip of the cover frame provided with collars so that the vertical adjustment can be carried out by the tightening screws for raising the cover frame.
