Method for controlling the menstrual cycle and pregnancy comprises administering after ovulation a luteolytic amt. of LH-RH(leuteinising hormone releasing hormone) or its agonists of formula p-Glu-His-Trp-Ser-Tyr-X-Y-Arg-Pro-Z (I). In (I), either (a) Z=GlyNH2, Y=Leu and X is DN Leu, DN Val, D Abu (alpha-aminobutyric acid), D Phe, D Ser, D Thr, D Met, D Pgl, D Lys, Leu, Ile, Nle, Val, N Val, Met, Phe, D Leu, D Arg, D Ser (t-Bu), D Thr (t Bu), D Cys (t Bu), DAsp (OtBu), D Glu (OtBu), D Orn (boc), D Lys (boc), D Trp, Trp, 2-methyl-ala, D Tyr, D Met, epsilon-(lauryl or dextran)-D Lys; or (b) Z=NHQ (Q=1-3C alkyl or cyclopropyl), Y=Leu, and X is D Ser (tBu), DThr (tBu), DAsp (OtBu), D Glu (OtBu), D Orn (boc) or D Lys (boc); or (c) X=Gly; Y=Leu and Z is NHQ', pyrrolidino or morpholino, with Q'=methyl, ethyl, n-propyl or 2-hydroxyethyl; or (d) X=D Trp, D Leu, D Ala, D Ser (tBu) D Tyr, D Lys or Ala; Y=Leu and Z=ethylamino; or (e) X=Gly; Y=N-alpha-Me Leu and Z=GlyNH2 or ethylamino; or (f) X=D Leu, Y=Leu and Z=cyclopropylamino, or (g) X=Gly; Y=Ser(tBu), Cys(tBu), Asp(OtBu), Glu(OtBu), Orn(boc), or Lys(boc); Z=GlyNH2 or NHCL. Used for advancing the time of menstruation (e.g. before a sporting event); as postcoital contraceptives, or for terminating a pregnancy. |
