The unit has at least one extension element of a specified length, having connecting elements at both its ends. It is intended for use in a length measuring device, and is inserted between a support for a fixed feeler and a support for a movable feeler. The body (1) of the extension unit is made of a nonmetallic material and contains in it a parallel end measure (16, 17) made of metal, with a calibrated length and at least one bearing (12-15) in which the end measure (16, 17) is transversally inserted and held.
