The system produces and fits a cover of thin metal foil onto e.g. a can, by stamping a disc out of a plate and then shaping it by a drawing punch. The shape cover (6a) is inserted by the punch (10) in the can (1) to a depth corresponding to the final position in the latter, after which the punch exerts a pressure in the outwards direction on the portion of the cover protruding above the edge of the can. Finally a pressure can be exerted on the outwards-bent edge of the cover in the axial direction of the can.
