Dicarbomethoxy-benzene sulphonates prodn Products of formula:- (where Me is alkali metal ion and R is eithe r H or carbomethoxy group) are obtained by heating corresponding alkali-mono- or dicarboxybenzenesulphonates with excess of methanol in presence of 0.1-1 mols of conc. sulphuric acid per mole alkali-mono- or dicarboxybenzenesulphonate at temperature above the boiling point of methanol. Products are used in production of polyesters that can be dyed with cationic dyes.
