1296385 Poultry batteries HANS GIESBERT KG 28 Nov 1969 [31 July 1969] 58224/ 69 Heading AIM [Also in Division B8] Apparatus for removing eggs from a multitier battery comprises a plurality of stacked cages 4 having inclined floors such that eggs roll to a common level in each tier where conveyors 5 carry the eggs in the direction F to an elevator 11 where they are injected into cups 10 carried by the elevator before being ejected on to a conveyor 15. At the elevator, the eggs pass from conveyor 5 and collect against upturned parallel wires of a delivery grating 9 (Fig. 4) which is upwardly pivotally mounted adjacent a downwardly inclined grating 6 at the end of the conveyor 5. The elevator 11 comprises a series of interconnected cups 10 formed by parallel C-shaped wires which are also parallel to the wires of the delivery grating 9 such as to be able to pass between them. A cross brace attached transversely to the cup wires of each cup can engage an indent in an apex of one of two hexagonal driving discs 12 so as to operate the elevator whereby eggs are picked up from the delivery grating 9 by the cups 10. When a cup already containing an egg presents itself to a delivery grating the grating 9 pivots upwardly to prevent pick-up of a second egg. The eggs are ejected onto the conveyor 15 by means of a synchronously rotated shaft 14 whose radially projecting flaps urge the eggs on to the conveyor via an arcuate guide 13.
