As shown in Fig. 2, the preform is formed in injection mould 21, the mould core being mounted on carrier 23 which is displaceable on spars 24. The preform is removed from the core by a stripper on carrier 23, falls into trough 27 and is pushed therefrom by plunger 18 into shaft 19 on to mandrel 20. The blow mandrels 20 are intermittently fed on a rotary table to blow mould 25. The blow mandrel may be covered with a thermally insulating material.
