A core of wood or wood-type fibre of chipboard material is coated on at least one side with finishing material which consists of at least one layer of flat material and another layer of thermosetting plastic. The layers of finishing material are brought into close contact with the press supports in a practically dust-free atmosphere so that no foreign bodies are between the support and the material. The press support carrying the layers is then pressed on to the core at elevated temp.
