<p>GUIDING, CONNECTING AND DELIVERING SYSTEM A guiding and connecting system continuously constrains a piece of material while it guides that piece of material during the forming of holding connections in that piece of material, it has a bi-directional guidance unit with a movable means which directly engages a piece of material and urges that piece of material against a portion of a supporting means and thereby does not rely merely upon gravitational force, the movable means of that bi-directional guidance unit moves relative to the portion of the supporting means, the bi-directional guidance unit selectively applies appropriatelyoriented, laterally-directed guiding forces to the piece of material whenever the holding connections in that piece of material tend to become displaced more or less than a predetermined distance from a predetermined edge of the piece of material, whereby the bidirectional guidance unit can by selective application of such forces help maintain those holding connections the predetermined distance from the predetermined edge of the piece of material, the movable means of the bi-directional guidance unit including a guide wheel which is mounted eccentrically of a pivot, that guide wheel being located intermediate the leading edge of the connectionforming machine and the pivot whereby the material-handling system can guide and work on short pieces of material until the trailing edges of the piece of material are close to the machine, and an open loop A.C. control system for the guide wheel which includes a slow speed, rapid, start-stop, reversible electric motor and which determines the starting and stopping and the direction of rotation of the slow speed rapid start-stop reversible electric motor. 1A.</p> |
