<p>S-Heterocyclic derivatives of phosphine or phosphite gold mercaptides of the formula: FORMULA I in which: R1 is lower alkyl, lower alkoxy, phenyl or phenoxy, with each alkyl or alkoxy having from one to three carbon atoms; X is S, NH, NCH3 or O; R2 and R3 are hydrogen or together from a 1,2-benzo radical; and ? indicates an optional double bond are disclosed. These compounds are prepared by reaction of an heterocyclic mercaptain compound with an appropriate phosphine or phosphite gold halide in the presence of alkali. These compounds have been found to have anti-arthritic activity.</p> |
