[Also in Division C2] Catalysts for use in fluidised or moving bed processes comprise a catalyst support material having a specific surface area of from 40 to 400 m<SP>2</SP>/gm and consisting of spheroidal particles of hydrated silica, at least one compound of a metal of group IIa, IIIa, or IVa of the periodic table, having an atomic weight of less than 178, and, optionally, alumina with the proviso that the metal is not a rare-earth metal, that the compound of the Group IIa metal is not a chloride, and that the particles comprise at least 60% SiO 2 , and a catalytically active component comprising CuCl 2 mixed with at least one chloride of an alkali metal or alkaline earth metal, and, optionally with a chloride of a rare-earth metal. Examples describe the preparation of catalysts containing CuCl 2 and KCl or SiO 2 -MgO, or SiO 2 -Al 2 O 3 -MgO. Additionally manazite sand is included in the catalyst part or ZrO 2 in the carrier part.</p> |
