The device has a bar catching and straightening ring (2). It is oblong in shape with respect to the direction of travel and is inclined transversely to the direction of travel. The drag bar (6, 7) bears a straightening cam (1) with a bevel (4) for straightening and a bevel (3) for making it easier to pull the longitudinal spar into the ring (2) or to pull it out of the ring (2). The drag bar can be easily pulled out of the catching and straightening device without being tilted when the skier waiting at the starting place gives it a horizontal push, which means that an operator can be dispensed with. A further advantage is that the drag bar is quickly straightened while being slipped into the catching and straightening device and is securely held when going round the cable sheaves. <IMAGE>
