<p>PURPOSE:A flux for steel smelting which exhibits excellent desulfurizing effect without causing the hydrogen enbrittlement of steel product and the occurrenced of pores during desulfurizing process, comprising the base component composed of CaO, Al2O3, and AlF3 to which are added the oxides of Ti, Zr, V, and B. CONSTITUTION:The flux composed of CaO and Al2O3 is mixed with AlF3 as a flux to prepare the base component, and the base component is further mixed with one or two or more of supplementary components, e.g., TiO2, ZrO2, V2O5, and B2O3 to prepare the flux for steel smelting. The mixing proportions of each component are 30 to 70 % CaO, preferably 36 to 65 %, 10 to 60 % Al2O3(CaO/Al2O3 >= 1 in %), 5 to 50 % AlF3, 0.1 to 15 % TiO2 + ZrO2, 0.01 to 15 % V2O5, 0.005 to 10 % B2O<3>, preferably 0.3 to 10 % TiO2 + ZrO2, 0.03 to 10 % V2O5, and 0.01 to 5 % B2O3. And, the combined use of SiO2 and AlF3 furtherly suppresses the hy drogen embrittlement of steel. The amount of these is 0.1 to 20 %.</p> |
