1302864 Compressing Zn/Pb materials IMPERIAL SMELTING CORP (NSC) Ltd 2 July 1970 [14 July 1969 28 July 1969] 35293/69 and 37830/69 Heading C1A Sulphidic materials based on Zn and/or Pb are desulphurized and compressed at a temperature of at least 500‹ C. and a pressure of 1-20 t./in.<SP>2</SP> to form lumps suitable as blast furnace feed. The temperature may be 500-750‹ C. The sulphidic ore may be desulphurized by sintering and crushing or by roasting. Preferably Pb-rich materials are sintered and crushed either to -“ inch for compression or to + ¥-1¢ inches for blast furnace feed, fines being used for compression; and Zn rich materials are roasted in a hearth, fluidized bed, or flash roaster. The desulphurized materials may then be mixed together with Zn/Pb oxidic materials and compressed. Gases from sintering and roasting may be fed to an H 2 SO 4 plant. |
