1417342 Hollow panels GLAVERBELMECANIVER 4 May 1973 [8 May 1972] 21392/73 Heading C1M In the manufacture of hollow panels by the securing of the marginal edges of glass sheets using adhesives, the marginal joints are protected from the ambient atmosphere by applying over the adhesive a barrier which is substantially water-impermeable and composed wholly or predominantly of at least one hydrophobic polymer, the polymer consisting wholly or predominantly of substituted or unsubstituted aliphatic hydrocarbon structural units, at least some of the units being chlorine or fluorine substituted. Examples of barrier polymer include vinylidene chloride/vinyl chloride copolymer, vinylidene chloride/isobutylene copolymer, vinylidene chloride/vinyl chloride/ acrylonitrile terpolymer, vinylidene chloride/ acrylonitrile/vinyl acetate terpolymer, polytetrafluoroethylene, polychlorotrifluoroethylene, vinylidene fluoride / chlorotrifluoroethylene copolymer and a fluorine substituted propylene/ ethylene copolymer. The adhesive and barrier composition are such that diffusion of at least one ingredient of the barrier composition into the adhesive takes place. |
