Prepn. of scopolamine and hyoscyamine hydro:bromide(s) - by alcohol extraction of alkaloid(s), and separation of the hydro:bromide(s) in chloroform

Prepn. of scopolamine and hyoscyamine hydrobromides is effected by cold extraction of alkaloids with alkaline alcohol, concn. of extract after-acidification, extraction of concentrate with CHCl3, distillation of CHCl3 and treatment of the residue with HBr in alcohol. Product is of good purity and yield. The hydrobromide of scopolamine is insoluble in CHCl3 whereas that of hyosayamine is soluble. The product are well-known anticholinergic agents.
