The instrument transformer has a porcelain hollow body (7) containing an insulating material. Its inner space is divided by a pressure resistant insulating tube (11) into a core chamber (12) bounded by the tube inner surface, and into a jacket chamber (13) bounded by the tube outer surface and the porcelain body inner wall. The core chamber contains insulating liquid and is connected with a pressure relief device (14) at the foot (6) or at the head (3) of the instrument transformer. The core chamber and the jacket chamber may be interconnected by channels. The tube may be mounted eccentrically in the porcelain body whose inner wall may have a recess over part of its envelope line.
