A method for removing aluminium from porcelain surfaces comprises applying to the surface, a composition in moist contact therewith, which consists of an alkali metal or alkaline earth metal peroxide. Preferably, the composition also contains a surfactant and an inert filler or abrasive. The peroxide should constitute 1 to 6 per cent by weight, 1 per cent of calcium peroxide is the most usual. Preferably 0.5 to 5% of the surfactant is used, examples given are alkylaryl sulphonates, quaternary alkyl ammonium salts, amine oxides and amides. The abrasive, for example ground crystalline mica, finely divided pumice or calcium carbonate comprises the remainder. |
