An instant picture camera uses a cassette of sheets of sensitised material, protected before use by a light-tight slide cover. The camera has flash synchronisation circuitry. The flash (13) is provided with a cassette-operated switch (10) so that if no cassette (2) is in the camera, or the light-tight cover (2a) has not been removed, the flash is inoperable. The flash is triggered by a piezo-electric crystal unit (11).
