IC engine performance optimising control system - has oscillating correcting signal synchronised with crankshaft angle

An IC engine is used. It has a control system by which a variable parameter of the engine is oscillated and the resulting change in engine performance is sensed with a view to regulating the parameter in the sense of optimising engine performance. The oscillations are synchronised with engine speed. The optimising signal is produced by a network (8) connected to a comparator (62) together with a voltage which rises with increasing crankshaft angle. The output of the comparator regulates the parameter concerned. The arrangement improves control at transient conditions.
