A system is used for the disinfection of telephone handsets by the provision within the handset (1) of a store of disinfectant (6) which evaporates when warmed. The store is preferably located close to the microphone and may be in the form of a ring or disc surrounding the microphone capsule. It is heated by a resistor (7). The vapour from the disc of disinfectant diffuses throughout the hollow central portion (11) of the handset and escapes to the outside through perforations (9) in the handgrip (10). There is a stopper (12) at the end of the handgrip to prevent the vapour from entering the earphone. |
