A system for reading out information in a plasma display panel having a set of X and Y electrodes, was disclosed in which a forward current was conducted through charge storage diodes (CSDs) connected to the X or Y electrodes. A read voltage was applied to a selected Y or X electrode. A charging current due to the read voltage was conducted through the CSDs in a reverse direction making use of their reverse recovery time. A gas discharge current flowed in the stray capacitance, so that the voltage rise was detected and read-out.
