Acetylenic esters are produced by reacting an acetylenic compound of the formula R-C IDENTICAL C-H, wherein R is a hydrogen atom or an unsubstituted or substituted alkyl, aryl, aralkyl or alkaryl radical, with a dialkyl carbonate CO(OR<1>)2 in the presence of a strong base, to produce the desired acetylenic ester R-C IDENTICAL C-COOR<1> and an alcohol R<1>OH, the latter being removed as it is formed. |
