1,236,759. Four-component ethylene copolymerization catalyst. FARBWERKE HOECHST A.G. 2 Dec., 1968 [2 Dec., 1967], No. 57074/68. Heading C3P. A soluble catalyst comprising (a) a vanadium compound; (b) an organoaluminium compound; (c) a modifier which is a basic nitrogencontaining compound; and (d) a reactivator which is a perchlorocrotonic acid derivative, a halogen containing alkyl-substituted-betalac. tone, an alkoxy derivative of a perhalogenated open chain or cyclic olefin or an alpha, beta unsaturated halogen-containing ketone, in specific proportions is employed for copolymerization of ethylene with a higher olefin and a non-conjugated diene in a halohydrocarbon dispersion medium. Suitable components (c) are amines, diamines, amides, lactams and urea derivatives. In examples ethylene, propylene and 5-ethylidene norbornene-2 or dicyclopentadiene are terpolymerized in methylene chloride in the presence of (C 2 H 5 ) 3 AlCl 3 , VOCl 3 , perchlorocrotonic acid, and ammonia, butylamine, dibutylamine, tributylamine, aniline, N-ethyl- or N,N-diethylaniline, pyridine, pyrrolidine, piperidine, ethanolamine and dimethylformamide. |
