PURPOSE:To recover efficiently iron and manganese accompanying no phosphorous by improving the converter slag by the method in which molten converter slag is subjected to an imperfect oxidation treatment to reduce the amount of divalent iron and at the same time the basicity of the slag is regulated by the addition of a SiO2- containing substance. CONSTITUTION:Molten converter slag is solidified by cooling and then subjected to an imperfect oxidation treatment until the amount of divalent iron becomes 50 wt% or less of the total iron amount. And, the same time, the basicity of the slag is regulated by the addition of a SiO2-containing substance so that the CaO/SiO2 molar ratio becomes 1.5 to 2.5. With this method, the sum total of the Mg-Mn ferrite phase, in which iron and Mn crystallize, and the dicalcium silicate phase, in which phosphorus is incorporated in a solid solution, both phases making up the main constitutional component, is made to become more than 70% of the whole composition of the slag. The remaining phase is the ferromagnetic Mg-Mn W phase. Since the Mg-Mn ferrite phase alone, containing nearly all Fe and Mn content in the form of solid solution, is ferromagnetic, the Fe and Mn content can be recovered with high efficiency by a magnetic separation method.
|
