A closure device for a bag comprises a pair of strips adapted to be fixed along the upper edges of the faces of the bag. One strip (3) has a carrying grip (4) extending upwardly therefrom in use, and the other strip (1) has for example, the shape of an inverted U so as to form a channel for receiving the strip (3). A slot (2) may be provided in the web of the inverted U to receive the grip (4). Alternatively, the dot (2) is replaced by a recess interrupting one flange and the web of the inverted U.
