Plastics or rubber material is impelled between the circumferentially spaced inlet 26 and outlet 62 of a stator housing 14, within the circumferential annular channel of a rotor 10 from which the material is discharged through the outlet 62 by a stationary blocking member 56 within the channel, and a spreader 38 (adjustably) extends into the channel to spread the material as thin layers 42 against the channel walls on the downstream side of the spreader 38 around a material free space 44 from which venting is effected or into which is introduced an additive for the material e.g. a reagent for the material, or glass beads or fibres. Venting is effected at a port 46, with a downstream port 54 acting either to introduce an additive or a flushing gas which facilitates the venting. Moving of the material in the layers 42 may be effected in a bank 50 created by a knife or bar 48, or mixing pins or bars may be employed. <IMAGE> |
