A rotor is a vessel for the prepn. of a fibrous slurry for paper or board making, is used for opening, grinding and maintaining in motion the charge of fibrous material such as waste-paper, carbodard, wood grinding and chemicals. At least the working edges of the rotor are clad with a hard granular material having sharp cutting points. The tranular material is a carbide and the granules are bonded to the vanes of the rotor by an alloyed substance. Alternatively the carbide granules may be melted on to the vanes by a plasma flame or they may be held by a synthetic resin. The rotor is highly resistant to wear and yields a homogneous, fibrous slurry, much more quickly and effectively. Energy is thus saved and with continuous working throughput is greatly increased.
