Potimycin A (I) was prepd. by fermentation of Micromonospora olivosterospora MK-70 (ATTC 21819) (II) II. was aerobically cultivated on medium contg. starch, soybean meal, corn steep liquor, and inorg. salts at PH 7.5 and 35≦̸C for 4 days, purified to give a white powder. I having mol. formula C17H35 N5O6 exhibited antibacterial activity against gram pos. and neg. bacteria, and is a new antibiotic with basic and water-sol. properties.
