1,196,557. Intake systems for I. C. engines; spray carburetters. SOC. ANON. ANDRE CITROEN. July 10, 1968 [July 26, 1967], No.32899/68. Heading F1B. Mixture is supplied to the combustion chamber 2 of a spark-ignition I. C. engine from a pair of carburetters 7 and 10 through respective induction passages 5, 6 and 8, 9 opening into the combustion chamber through respective valve controlled ports. The passage 8, 9 and its respective port are of larger cross-sectional area than the passage 5, 6 and its respective port and the carburetter 10 supplies a mixture suitable for maximum engine output and the carburetter 7 mixture for low output or idling. The mixture passing through the passage 6 is heated by the close proximity of exhaust gases flowing through the exhaust manifold 12. At maximum engine output both carburetters 7, 10 may supply mixture or the carburetter 7 may be rendered inoperative. A single air filter 11 or separate air filters may be provided for the carburetters. The inlet valve 18 may be opened for a longer period than the inlet valve 14 or vice versa. |
