To displace racks (10, 11, 12) for the purpose of forming a corridor, each rack has a reversible electric motor (15), an actuating member (34) and two electric control circuits (20, 21), each having a switch element (23, 25) actuated by the adjacent racks. Due to the fact that the control circuits of all the units are switched parallel to one another between a switchable current path and a continuously connected lead, all the racks in each case on the one side of the selected rack for which access is desired are switched in the same way for movement in the one direction and those on the other side are switched for movement in the other direction. This provides a simple and operationally reliable arrangement. <IMAGE>
