The spring clip fits in a wall opening to secure a component, having a base at right angles to the insertion direction. From this there extend a pair of flat parallel tongues with stops at right angles at the free ends, also a pair of bent ones, diverging and then converging. The edges joining the diverging and converging portions are closer to the base than the end stops, which determine the insertion distance, while the edges engage behind the wall opening. The bent walls (73, 74) are offset on the base (75) through 90 deg. in the peripheral direction from the parallel flat ones. When the edges (87) are at the desired distance apart (88) they partly fit between the flat ones so as to support them rigidly.
