Thermoplastic compsns. for mfg. medical equipment coming into contact with parenteral fluids consist of 50-95 (70-90) pts. wt. chlorinated polyolefin, (I) contg. 15-45 (25-40) wt % Cl and having an average mol. wt. 30000-30,000 (40,000-100,000) and of 5-50 (10-30) pts. wt. acrylate and/or methacrylate ester polymers (II). The compsns. may be prepd. by mixing (I) and (II), but better transparency and uniformity is achieved by polymerising the acrylate and/or methacrylate esters, or their mixts. in the presence of (I). The compsns. are pref. used for making containers for blood or blood substs. infusion equipment or parts, e.g. hoses, catheters etc. and bags for parenteral fluids. The compsn. have low water vapour permeability, high transparency, strength, and weldability and contain no extractable or hydrolysable components.
