[Also in Division B5] A laminated article, e.g. a shoe insole, a wall panel, a seat cover or a vehicle interior panel, comprises a backing member 1, a strip of heat sealable material 3, carried by the edge surface 2 of the member 1, and a cover 5, the margins of which are heat sealed at 6 to the edge surfaces 2 so as to enclose and protect the latter. A thermoplastic foam layer 4, e.g. of vinyl polymer or polyurethane, may be interposed between the cover and backing member. This layer 4 and the cover 5 may be bonded together before being applied to the backing member. The latter may be of leather or latex-impregnated fibre board. Its edge surfaces 2 may be bevelled, e.g. to lie at 24 degrees to a line perpendicular to the plane of the backing member. The heat sealable strip 3 may extend over the marginal portions of the upper and lower surfaces of the backing member, as well as the edge surfaces thereof. This strip may be of polyvinyl acetate. The cover 5 may be of expanded vinyl polymer. |
