The boot lid holder for passenger motor vehicles is supported by a telescopic stay. This stay has slotted end engaging with a bracket. This stay can be used with a wide variety of boot lid locks and it is readily and conveniently extended and stowed. The slotted end (23) of the stray strut grips the bracket member (22) of the boot lock. The bracket is clipped in the manner of tube pincers. The lock jaw is pivoted by the contact action of the bracket and encloses the bracket member. This rotating lock part has notch engaging with a catch. This lock is readily released by actuating its spring.
